National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage:
For apprentices 16-24 the National Minimum Wage does apply and they will also see a rise in pay depending on earnings.
The National Living Wage applies to those over 25 who aren’t apprentices in their first year of work.
Here’s the breakdown of the National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage from Gov.UK:

Workers must be at least school leaving age (last Friday in June of the school year they turn 16) to get the National Minimum Wage. They must be 25 or over to get the National Living Wage.
Contracts for payments below the minimum wage are not legally binding. The worker is still entitled to the National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage.
Does Everyone Qualify?
Workers that don’t qualify for the National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage include anyone self-employed, company directors or family who live in the home of an employer and do household chores and/or anyone who is a voluntary worker.
