5 Senses that Boost Productivity: Taste

By emocto @emoctoofficial · On 28th March 2019

In this series we’ll be looking at how each of the five senses can be stimulated in a way that can help you at work. Achieving optimum levels of productivity is growing in its importance in the workplace. Attacking this from a sensory point of view may provide some insight as to what to surround ourselves with at work. Here: taste.

Coffee

A shoo-in. Coffee is a part of most people’s working days for one reason: caffeine. We as humans have evolved to experiment with coffee beans and the brewing of it has evolved into an art form. Whether you need a simple shot of espresso to perk you up at the crack of dawn or like lots of cream, lots of sugar and everything in between piled on top of your mug, make sure you get your daily caffeine injection, just like I know you will.

Greek Yoghurt

Yoghurt adverts have been omnipresent in our lives since the dawn of the Millennium. There is a reason the health benefits of this pots’, tubs and tins of white velvet has been shoved down our throats for nearly 20 years; because those health benefits actually exist. The science of it lies behind the amino acid Tyrosine, which produces dopamine and serotonin, the happiness hormones.

5 Senses that Boost Productivity: Taste

Blueberries

These little wonders and pretty much most of the berry family are proven to be great memory function stimulants. They are rich in anti-oxidants and this causes them to stimulate areas of the brain required for recollection and cogent, critical thinking. Grab a punnet today and graze at your leisure.

Brown Rice

For the next little lunch you make for yourself, try making brown rice the primary ingredient. They are an excellent source of magnesium and as such make very good stress relief food. As we know decreasing your stress can increase your productivity, the two work against one another so diminishing one will help the other grow. Brown Rice also has more vitamins and if you are going to pick a rice, make it this one.

Water!

This may seem like an obvious one and as everyone knows we are over 70% water as human beings therefore keeping those numbers up should be top priority. Staying hydrated, not neglecting H2O in favour of soft drinks will help you maintain focus and feel refreshed every time you take a sip.
