The course of human history dictates that we are experts in finding new skills to monetise. By 2100 our descendants will have access to technology and knowledge that we can only try to poorly imitate in our own imaginations. The facilitators and wielders of ingenuity then, these are the focus of this piece. What are the jobs of tomorrow?
Drone Manager
They already pepper the skies and sleep in Amazon warehouses, pinching many jobs humans would once have had, delivering cushions and beard oil, but these pint-sized helipads are due to increase in size and number in the next few decades. Soon they’ll be so many a real person with skin and hair will need to be put in charge. The fleets will need a wing commanders as it were. Recompense for the damage they’ve done to the courier industry, perhaps.
Productivity Officer
As we know by now, all companies differ at some level. The newest member of staff in every office will be someone whose sole focus it is to keep everyone else efficiently ticking. Think of this role as a kind of scrum master-cum-analyst-cum-counsellor, they need to know how to maximise efficiency and they need to know it person by person. Results driven individuals could be in for a change in career, keeping everything well-oiled and ironing out any creases.
Nostalgist
Much like Feng Shui Experts or interior designers, there is a market in helping people realise what they want. Nostalgia is such a nebulous and personal concept but weighs heavy as an influence on our decisions in the present. The need for satisfaction, for a physical representation of our psyche, a proper identity, will be something human beings will grow to need in the future. There are those with the vision, creativity and era-specific knowledge to help you achieve that, for a fee that is.
End-Of-Life Therapist
The encroachment of death onto our lives is inevitable. The only constant in a world without the philosopher’s stone is the grim reality that one day we will pass away. There may be an interesting change in the approach to death, whereas now there is a focus on prolonging life as long as possible soon there will be a service for those looking to make peace with themselves before the end. Older people are a demographic who do not seek therapy as much as their children but when those raised when therapy became commonplace mature, so will the subject of their therapy sessions.
Human-Technology Integration Specialist
This one concerns the older generations as well because with the sheer amount of technology being produced, there are some struggling to keep up. Soon experts will be drafted in to help explain the workings of a world which will be developing at an increasingly rapid pace.
